Lane Cove Cats Junior AFL
The Lane Cove Cats play in the Greater Sydney Juniors AFL competition. More information on the GSJ can be found at www.aflgsj.com.au.
We have teams playing across most divisions from Under 9 to Under 17
Training sessions are run at various times during the week. In general, our junior teams (U12 and below) train on Thursday nights at Blackman Park. Joint venture teams with North Ryde train at ELS Hall.
The majority of games are played on Sunday mornings, with some games on Friday nights under lights.
Rules of the Game
Lane Cove Cats adopt a “this is our game” philosophy to ensure participating boys and girls have a fun, safe and positive football experience that is suitable to their needs.
We don’t want to put kids in adult environments too early and that includes large grounds, congested play, unnecessary physicality and an over-emphasis on winning, when skill development is more important.
The AFL have developed a Junior Football Match Guide that aims to:
1. Provide clear direction to leagues and clubs for the provision of appropriate pathways for all boys and girls in safe and enjoyable environments.
2. Ensure that junior football is delivered in a uniform manner (consistent rules & regulations) across all States and Territories.
3. Maximise the recruitment and retention of players and umpires through programs and match rules appropriate to each age level (meets the needs of children – they are not little adults).
We play in the Sydney Harbour Juniors – North league of the AFL Greater Sydney Juniors.
