MATCH REPORT MACQUARIE U14 Youth girls DIV 1 – SUNDAY 31 JULY 2022

The U14 Division 1 girls ventured east today to Trumper Oval for a date with the Easts Bulldogs.

The contest was tough from the outset, with a talented and well drilled Easts team getting on top early in the first quarter.  After settling the nerves at quarter time, the girls put on a much better display in the second quarter with goals from Genevieve and Celeste and some good ball movement through the corridor.

Although Easts came out strongly again in the third quarter, Lizzie produced one of the goals of the year.  After an intercept mark, Lizzie played on immediately with 4 running bounces over 40 metres and then a goal on the run from 40 metres out.  Lizzie contributed another goal in an even final quarter, but the scoreboard reflected a tough day in the office.

All in all, a total team effort against a very good top side. Eliza, Genevieve and Lizzie produced their usual leading efforts, Keona was aggressive all day in shadowing the other team’s top player, Zara was a steadying influence down back, and Sophie showed great speed on the wing, continuing her rapid improvement in her first year of AFL.

Up next is a Blackman home game against the Forest Lions, where the girls will be keen to extend our unbeaten record against them this season.
