The final series of 2020, marked the 50th game in the blue and white hoops for Sami Zahra.
Sami is a product of the Cats system, having found her sport’s calling by joining the Cats as an Auskicker. It quickly became apparent that she had found a sport she loved.
On successful graduation to the big game, Sami joined the U9’s boy’s team as the only girl in the team. She was never intimidated, held her own and often surprised the opposition with her willingness to engage and her gutsy, competitive nature.
By the time the U10’s came around, there was an all girls team and this saw the coaches bidding for Sami’s services. Sami ended the debate by splitting her time between the all girls and mixed teams.
Sami, is first and foremost, a true team player. Happy to be in the side with her mates. Sami will play any position as long as she is part of the action. If a player goes down, Sami will always stay by their side until she knows someone is looking after them.
Her loyalty to her team was on display from a young age when she realised one of her team mates was the only one to have not kicked a goal in the season. She secretly rallied the rest of the team to ensure the ball got to him and sure enough the goal was scored to
Sami’s bubbling excitement, a demonstration that she is as much about her team’s and teammates’ success, as she is her own.
Of course, it’s not just your own team who can be your friends. If the ball is at the other end, why not strike up a conversation with the player marking you and have a bit of a natter out on the field.
While Sami is a great footballer and over 50 games has developed all of the skills, enjoyment and having fun remains her #1 priority. From Sami’s perspective, the best things about being a Cat, are the amazing friends and the great community.
Congratulations Sami on 50 games at the Cats.
