The Cats predominantly play and train on Steve Chisholm Oval which is the turf oval at Blackman Park. Although there are lights on this ground they barely provide enough light to walk across let alone play a game of AFL. The photo below which was taken early in the afternoon shows how dark it can get and that one of the light poles on the right is trying very hard to hide behind a set of trees. Training at night is really hard, and games at night is simply not achievable. With a lights upgrade, and better access to this ground means we can play games on Friday nights and train later in the evening during the week. We have older age groups at the club now and space has become a premium.
The Cats are currently raising money to upgrade the lights and have two campaigns where YOU can help..
“Let there be Light” partnership with Bright Spark Power. Submit an electricity bill (residential/business) for evaluation and the Cats receive $5 ($10 or business), If you sign up we get $25. Simple as that.
Donation to the Lane Cove Cats Sports Foundation. This is a tax deductible donation that will be used directly with the upgrade of the lights.
So even though there is no local footy on at the moment, there are always ways we can make Lane Cove a better place.
