Scintillating football from our Cats in Q2 showed our best is good enough, but we need to put it together for all four quarters. The trip to Hornsby gave us one hour of match time in 4 weeks…671 other hours across this four week period could be spent recovering! The chill and light rain made for typical wintry footy conditions, which suited many of our boys, despite missing a few key players.
Q1 was an arm wrestle as Tom L, Archer P, Aza and Jerry adapted to the conditions early but we didn’t hit the scoreboard. Against quality opposition, our Cats flexed their muscle in Q2. Ivan was like NicNat in the ruck, Toby & Oscar productive as key targets, with run from Ryan, Ben & Daniel. Harry snuck forward to kick two thrilling goals, while Ted was dangerous and Tom C slotted his first for the season giving all momentum to the Cats. Our Cats were rolling and the coach was pleased to see reward for effort, leading at half time. We’ve struggled in Q3 in recent weeks (perhaps it is the oranges?) and lost our lead, but Josh battled hard from full back. With one last effort in Q4, we had the belief but just couldn’t execute in the big moments, and went down 40 to 22. Leading stats saw 10+ kicks to Ivan, Ryan, Harry, Toby & Oscar, and an even contribution to the tackle count from all the team.
Coaches awards went to Josh who showed composure & discipline at full back, two-goal kicking machine Harry who revelled in the tough conditions and our captain Oscar whose courage & effort matches his skill every week.
Big thanks to parents Cam, Pete, Stefan, Ben & Toni for their volunteer support on the day. Enjoy your school holidays and we will keep battling for our first win on Sunday 11 July.
