Match Report R8: LCC U11-3 Duncan vs St Ives U11-3 Sunday 6th June 2021

Oh what a brave performance against quality opposition but a heart-breaking result! Team Duncan keep inching closer towards our first win of 2021 but narrowly missed by 4 points on Sunday 35-31. Urged on by our new cheer squad leader Sachin, we welcomed back Aza from injury along with a few key players who all hit the scoreboard (Byron, Ivan & Toby).

Lane Cove Cats produced a powerful first half with 8 scoring shots to 2, but only two went through the big sticks thanks to Daniel & Toby. Good midfield pressure from Oliver & Ben, key targets Jerry & Oscar providing structure, with reliable defence from Archie L at full back gave encouragement to the Cats at half time. Rotating 5 on the interchange to share game time saw Josh, Archer P, Aza & Jude get busy in Q3 but St Ives hurt us on the scoreboard with 4 goals to 0. With one big final quarter effort down by two goals, the Cats bounced out of the ¾ time huddle with a quick opening goal to Byron. St Ives held tough against a wave of Cats pressure, with all supporters chewing all 10 of their fingernails right off! An inspirational goal to Ivan with a minute to go gave us a glimmer of hope but the siren beat our valiant attack.

Coaches awards went to our skipper Ben who sets a high benchmark for effort and great leadership, key forward target Jerry who has taken big responsibility in recent weeks and delivered, also to Archie L who has been our great improver in recent weeks with reliability & skill at full back.

Big thanks to parents Cam, Pete, Bec, Simon & Andy for their volunteer support on the day. Enjoy your long weekend off and we’ll have another crack up at Hornsby in a fortnight.
