The BBQ has always been a central part of community sporting clubs. There is nothing better than downing an egg & bacon roll or a pie while you watch your children have a great time kicking the footy around the oval. Plus those hungry kids need to refuel after the game.
However, the footy BBQ/canteen is also one of the most important sources of fundraising for our club. This year we are ever more reliant on this fundraising stream, as traditional methods will be difficult this year.
At the same time, the cost of running the venue continues to rise. Rising ground hire and umpire fees remain a constant. But with health & safety requirements increasing due to the coronavirus, we have seen a big increase in game day costs for first aid services from St Johns Ambulance.
All we ask is for a couple of parents could help run the BBQ. We base the roster around the teams playing at home that weekend. In general your team should only be required once or twice this year.
If you haven’t already seen it, we purchased an enclosed trailer during the offseason and have set it up as a portable command centre for game days. It also has a built in BBQ, pie warmer and space to store food and drinks. This should make it a lot easier to run than in previous seasons.
