Match Report Round 4: Rohan U8 vs Balgowlah U8 Sunday 2nd June 2019

3 June 2019

Today we played against our toughest competition in Balgowlah who had a lot of quality players which made for a great contest considering we had 3 of our stars in Max, Angus and Angus all on the sidelines.

Team Captain Owen wasn’t going to let the absence of stars unsettle the team – a solid week of shadow boxing and eye of the tiger got him fired up early enough today to be dressed to play by 5:30am…

All children played great games today however there were a couple of highlights.

The focus of taps out of the ruck to a player was brilliant and we won the ball out of the middle on several occasions.  If we keep working on this over the rest of the season it will set the children up well for the years to come as if you can get first possession forward it puts pressure on the opposition.

The other highlight today was Collette not only kicking her first goal for the season, but seeing her do well in all zones and get plenty of possessions and sharing it with her team – with that kind of skill she could be getting a game for the Swans with their current form…

Something for the team to work on for the next game is to look for a teammate when they have the ball.  Today there were a few times where they just kicked the ball long without looking for anyone – if they do that it quickly comes back as invariably the opposition get the ball.  As soon as we slowed down and did a short kick to our team to control possession then more often than not it resulted in a goal.

Special mention to the Boyle family for today – Saskia’s best game yet, Natasha organising the oranges and snakes for the team and for Felix taking control to teach Alex (dad) to the ropes for goal umpiring – solid work Team Boyle!!

Enjoy the Bye week next week and see you the following week – Go Team Rohan!!

Team Captain – Owen

Best Effort – Saskia

Best Kick – Collette
