Match Report Round 1: Lane Cove Cats U8 Narkle vs Lane Cove Cats U8 Rohan Sunday 12th May

What a big week it has been for Team Narkle.  It was fantastic to see the kids arrive for their first game of Under 8’s full of energy (and a little nervousness), but leave the morning with a new confidence level with AFL so they can face the season ahead. The aim of the year is to improve their skills and have fun as a team, and we will do all we can to make this happen.

It was an impressive game of U8 AFL and the teamwork was the highlight. Some of the kids didn’t know one another by name at the start of the day, but by the end they were running and handballing together like pro’s.

Maddy’s clearance from the centre ruck contest and kick to Will who then kicked the goal was amongst the fastest goal we will see this season. Evan’s kicking is something we will enjoy watching, with Jordan, Jack; and our captain for the day, Jake, already proving a great combination. The skipper kicking a lazy two goals.

Defensively, the pressure from the team was really strong with Edward, Marcus, Maddison and Evan all showing a liking for this part of the ground.

I’d also like to thank Steven Phillips and Drew Spiden for their assistance behind the goals, and to those other parents who reached out to volunteer assistance in the coming weeks.  Like the kids on the field, we will need to show our commitment to team work to ensure the whole team runs smoothly throughout the season. Mai has helped put together the attached spreadsheet that will assist us all during the season.  Please note when your family needs to bring the team oranges and when your child will be given the Captain’s arm band.  I will let you know if and when we are required to dress and prepare the field (home game-early starts). Finally, please let me know if you have holidays planned, or are otherwise away during the season. Better we know this before I start to allocate “Team Captain” for the week.

I look forward to seeing you at 8:45am for the warm up drills before the big clash against the Balgowlah Suns at Blackman Park this Sunday, 19 May 2019.

Let’s go Lane Cove Cats!!
