After a late change to the draw, we had to travel down to a beautiful Trumper oval for an 8am start on Mother’s Day, to face off with Easts.
After a very slow start to the game we found ourselves down 4 goals to 1 at quarter time. The second and third quarters turned around though as we got back to playing our game plan and working as a team. Our defence stayed strong, holding Easts goal-less over the next 2 quarters and our forward line started to move the ball better. We missed a few opportunities, but continued to hit the scoreboard, closing the difference to just 2 points at 3/4 time.
The final quarter was one that was built on anticipation, we had all the play for most of the game, but with no one on the bench and some loss of structure in the last quarter we ended up being run over. Despite losing, I believe the boys really started to see the power of our strategy. There were so many great passages of play, second, third and fourth attempts, and a great team spirit.
