The scene was set for a Mother’s Day blockbuster with the ‘Rohan vs Narkle’ grudge match on Round 1 of the Under 8s competition – we were not disappointed!

After a stirring speech from our captain Angus ‘Gus’ Pyne, Rohan took their positions under strict direction from Gus to keep moving, talk loudly and lots of teamwork.

The speech worked and for a group that had never played together before, the teamwork was exceptional – lots of handballs, kicks to leading players, strong defensive efforts and all of the teamwork resulting in plenty of goals!

Amid some dodgy umpiring decisions, it was an arm-wrestle with Narkle all day and both teams should be proud of the contest – it’s a comp we don’t score in and I think it’s pretty fair to say that football was the winner on the day…

A special mention to Gus for the leadership he displayed today.  It’s always a tough gig being the first but he was an absolute champion the way he handled himself as captain (on his birthday) and the speeches he gave to the team – that good I’m pretty sure he was channelling Nick Riewoldt…

Well done Team Rohan!!
