President’s Update – 2018 season

Another season has come and gone. Its been another highly succesful and rewarding year at the club.

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who’s  helped out around the club. From the Auskick parent who carried some goal posts back to the storage room, to the volunteers who toil away every Sunday making sure everything runs smoothly. Clubs like us are only as good as the volunteer workforce that runs them. And I think we have the best bunch of people on the Lower North Shore. As Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

This year we had record numbers across both Auskick (147) and Juniors (144). And based on the smiles I saw at the various Gala Days last weekend, it has been a pretty rewarding experience for both players and parents.

We welcomed some new sponsors, with Belle Property coming on board. As a volunteer based junior sports club, we can’t thank enough the support that our sponsor provide. A big thank you goes out to our existing sponsors, including Apple Dental, Lane Cove Physio, Lane Cove Orthodontics, Avionics and Gillard Consulting Lawyers.

There should also be no doubt that we are doing something right. At the AFL Sydney Juniors presentation night, Lane Cove Cats were awarded the best junior football club on the North Shore, while Peter Beck backed up last year’s effort to be awarded the Auskick Coordinator of the Sydney North region.

We also won the Little Legends competition held by Macquarie Sports Radio, which came with a winners check of $2,000 to spend on equipment for the 2019 season.

We also had a succesful events, with both the Sports Legends Lunch and Soiree raising much need funds for the club.

However we have another exciting season ahead for us. While most of you may be turning your attention to the summer sport season, we are already planning for 2019.  On the 1 September,  registrations for next season will open up. Keep an eye out for an email outlining the details, or navigate to our website to begin the process for either Auskick, or Juniors.

As we highlighted at the start of the year, we are strengthening our relationship with the North Ryde Dockers. This has significantly increased the opportunity for the older age groups to continue their football with the club. This year we had our U13 boys join forces with the Dockers. The venture was a raging success, with the spirit of LCC living on strongly. In 2019, we plan to enter into more joint ventures where we feel it will benefit the children from both clubs. That should see us provide opportunities for boys aged all the way up to 17 to play with LCC.

On the youth girls side, we are planning to field teams in the U10, U12 and U14 age groups. The advent of the two-year age groups eases the transition from one age group to another. For the girls aged 7-9 playing in Auskick this year, I would highly recommend the U10YG program for 2019. They will be supported by a strong group of girls who are returning from their first year this year.

In the short-term, the AFLJ 7s series will make a return.  The 4 week series will commence in the first week of November. More details will be provided closer to the time. However, this year we plan to have separate boys and girls competitions. If you are interested in playing, please register your interest here.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or if there is anything we can do to make the club even better, please contact myself or any member of the committee.
