As I was walking to my car after today’s match I stopped to thank the Demons coach as he was chatting to some of his players parents. The Pennant Hills parents went out of their way to thank the Cockatoos and commented on what a great game it had been. Both teams played with remarkable poise and skill for such young players. Both teams played as a team, looking for their team mates, with lots of great passes, both by hand and foot. There were lots of great marks, goals and a fierce competition for the ball.

It may be the inspiration gained from a team excursion to watch the Giants v Saints match out at Spotless stadium, or running out into the field under our new team banner (a big thank you to Sally Byrne for the banner) but the Cockatoos’ play was simply brilliant. Whether it was watching the way Scarlett, Oscar and Ryan worked the ball out of the backline as a team, or seeing Jerry racing through the midfield after a ball, then executing a clean hand pass to Jude for him to boot it into the forward line, or Jonti’s clean hands under the high ball, before an over the head hand pass under pressure to Hamish in space, resulting in a goal, our team work would have made our U10s team proud.

It was great to see Ysabella getting her mojo back this week, with a perfect kick to Scarlett among her highlights.

I may have said this before but our game keeps going to a new level, and this brings enormous joy to our parents and leaves me a very proud coach. Awards this week went to Jonti for his kicking, whether it is a precise short pass, or a long range thump, his kicking is first class. Jerry was awarded best team player for his chase and hard work, and his real effort to get the ball to a team mate. Special mention should also go to Oscar this week. He was ferocious at the ball, took some great marks and executed some great passes.

An awesome display this week Cockatoos.

Next week is our last game for the season (apart from the gala day), and it is a home game at Blackman Park against Westbrook White. Kick off is 10:30am so players at the field by 10 am please.

GO COCKATOOS

Tony
