President’s Update – June 2018

Hard to believe that its round 11 already. That means only 5 more matches for many competitions.

Weather has finally turned nasty, with washouts and ground closures becoming increasingly common. This has raised the issues of the condition of the turf field at Blackman Park. We are currently working with the council to facilitiate an upgrade of the surface. This will also entail the re-configuration of the field, which will push the length out to 140m. This will allow us to play older age groups, which has been an issuing restricting our game allocation at Blackman Park.

We are also proud to announce that we will soon the owners of a brand new electronic scoreboard. All that money raised from BBQs, raffles and our sponsors, as well as the generosity of the council and AFL NSW/ACT,  as allowed us to make this wonderful acquisition.

Talking of which, I would encourage everyone to purchase a ticket to our Sports Legends Lunch. This is our main fundraising activity for the year, and will go a long way to funding the improvements I just talked about on the B4 field. Get a group of friends together, even parents of your respective child’s team, and purchase a table. We have some great guests speaking on the day, including Mick Malthouse, Amanda Farrugia and Jude Bolton.

We are also coming up to the holiday impacted period of the fixure. So I thought it would be helpful to send an update on what is coming up for the remainder of the season.

Holiday rounds

With some school breaking up for holidays this week, round 11 is designated as a holiday round. So that means the miniumum number of players requried to constitute an official match is reduced by 2.

There will be NO games on 8 or 15 July, before the resuming on 22 July (which is another holiday round).

However, we ask that everyone contact their coach or team manager and notifty them if you child wont’ be available over the school holidays.

Training over school holidays

We are planning to hold optional training session during the school holidays. Notices will be sent out via TeamApp but feel free to let you team know there will be coaches there to conduct drills and some games over the holidays.

We have Zac Langdon from the Giants attending boys training on 5 July, while we have Amanda Farrugia attending girls training this Wednesday (27 Jun).

Finals & Gala Days

For U11 and above, finals will commence on 19 August. The grand final is scheduled to be held on 2 September.

Competitions in the U10 and below age groups will be undertaking Gala Days in leu of finals. They will take on the format first introduced last year, where there is one week of round robins, then the final four progress to the finals the following week.

Those two weeks are scheduled for 19 & 26 August.
