Match Report Round 8 – U8 Cockatoo Sunday 3rd June

Hi Cockatoos,

On Sunday we came up against a very good St Ives team with a bunch of very talented players, but our Cockatoos were up for the challenge and matched the Saints goal for goal.

Best goal went to Aza, who scored his first (and definitely not last) goal for the year. Watching his face after he scored lifted the whole team (and the coach). Oscar also kept the scorers busy with a couple of great goals.

Ryan continues to take every mark within reach, including a brilliant overhead grab that won him the best mark award. Xavier and Ysabella also impressed with their steady hands and big kicks. Jerry and Ollie’s speed around the ground ensured they got plenty of possessions, which they used well as always. Max had a couple of good kicks and Scarlett starred as always.  She really can kick that ball a long way. Jude continues to improve and chase down the ball. He also has a great kick which he used to great effect again.

The team are really starting to get the idea of marking up on the opposition when the other team has the ball. The improvement of our defensive play is making a big difference and makes us hard to score against. We still have a little work to do in our defensive third with the players still running towards the goal to act as goal keeper, rather than running at the ball (or player with the ball) to create that extra pressure, but there is no doubt we are improving week to week.

No games this Sunday as it is the long weekend. Our next match is on Sunday 17 June at Blackman Park No 4 against Pennant Hills Red. Kick off is 8 am. In the meantime try and get out in the backyard or local park for a kick with Mum and Dad, to work on the fundamentals!

Finally a big thank you to all the parents for your help in setting up and running the day. It is very much appreciated. I hope you have a great weekend, and I’ll look forward to seeing you on the 17th unless I see you beforehand.
