On the first winter’s night of the year, Dal Pos headed to Cherrybrook for their inaugural game under lights. The girls were taking on North West Lightning on a night that was raising money for various women’s charity’s. We decided to support the McGrath Foundation, and wore some wonderful pink socks to raise money for the breast cancer awareness foundation.
Not only did the girls looked spectacular, they played even better. The theme of the night was to kick long out of congestion and run hard, thus putting pressure on the opposition backline. And right from the start, they executed this strategy to perfection.
Chloe lead the charge in the middle, attacking every contest. That allowed the girls, lead by Genevieve to use their speed to gain possesion and quickly kick into the forward line. With our forwards sitting high, we ran onto the ball and pumped through goal after goal. Eliza, who said before the game she can’t kick straight, put through three goals in the blink of an eye as a result of quick kicks into the forward line.
In her first game with the team, Veronica slotted in seemlessly and quickly showed her great skills around the contest. Players such as Sam and Elizabeth were strong all over the ground, with the attack on the footy a highlight.
Imogen and Jeanie kept the goals flowing in the last quarter, it what was a comphrensive night of footy by the girls.
Given the girls put in such a wonderful team effort, deciding on the awards was extremely difficult. In the end we gave Imogen the Team Spirit Award, while Veronica righly deserved the Courage Award. And Sami got the Play of the Day for a great intercept mark, long kick into the forward line that resulted ina goal.
