Match Report Round 4 – U9 Hawkins Sunday 6th May

Team Hawkins hit the road for the 3rd straight week and this time it was down to Lilyfield to play a club in just their 2nd season, the newly formed Leichardt Cygnets.

With only 10 players available this week, it was going to be a good battle. Leichardt dominated the 1st Quarter, kicking 4 goals and our boys only had the ball enter the forward zone once with no return.

With the coach under immense pressure the players were reminded of the pre match message to reduce our handballs and kick the ball when in space more often. They did this in spades and the goals flowed. Special mention here to Dylan Fleischer, Joshua Hodgkiss & Dylan O’Dowd, who continued to win the ball back in the midfield and send it back to the forwards.

By the end of the 3rd Quarter, the boys held a good lead and were able to self reflect on the things they were doing well and a couple of things that they wanted to do better. With the final result a good victory to the Cats.

I am enjoying watching their continued improvement and teaching the boys about playing the game. In response they are showing signs of playing like a team, which will always remain our goal.

Best Defensive Play Award: Harvey King. Best Team Player Award: James O’Dowd.

Special mention and thanks to the Leichardt boys who took turns to play for us, so that all available players from both sides could enjoy the game.
