Match Report U12 Duncan – Sunday 8th April

What a great start to the season it was last Sunday….back at Blackman Park (now known as Fortress Blackman), the sun was shining and the mighty U12’s were looking forward to the first game of 2018.  It was also a huge Lane Cove Cats welcome to our newest recruit Will Moore – great to have you at the club Will and we will keep working on a nickname

The team had prepared well during the preseason training and had all read their laminated decision matrix and team values sheet.   As soon as the team focussed on the start of the game things started to click into place.   And what a start to the game it was, with the first centre clearance secured by the giant improver from last season, Lucas leading to some great forward play and an amazingly strong mark at full forward by Will Zahra – GOAL.

This theme continued for the first three quarters: relentless at the football, looking for a team mate at all times – which was commented on by the Glebe coach to us after the game and is the key to success in U12’s and lots and lots of running.  The speed of Sam, Blake, Daniel and Max in the middle was matched by the second and third efforts of Louie, Joey, James, Will McD and Jaeden around all the contests.   Strong marking in the forward line by Schoey and Will (Plugger) Z were a constant highlight.  The tackling of Lachie, Liam and Raff was fierce and contributed to some fantastic turnovers.

4 goals in the first quarter and 2 in the second was fantastic, including a goal from our super sub Luca, who was trying to outdo his brother.  What was even more pleasing was the fact that we kept Glebe scoreless for the entire first half.   3 goals to 1 in the third quarter was also pleasing and a fair reflection of how well we played as a team.    We ran out of legs a little in the last quarter and to Glebe’s credit they kept trying and piled on 4 last quarter goals.  Fitness is certainly something for us to continue working on as the season progresses.

Well done to all for a great start to the season, all the coaches, managers and supports are looking forward to a great year of football and lots of FUN.

Cheers,

Matt and Schoey.
