Under 8

Team Menzel

What a way to end the season!  Team Menzel played one of their best matches of the year today when they faced the Mosman Swans White team at the Allan Border Oval.

This week, we focussed on our defensive marking and getting into space to receive the ball when we had possession.  The message got through because despite having one less player for the entire game, the Cats put pressure on the ball and had much more possession compared to last week.

During one passage of play in the final term, Team Menzel showed how much they have progressed as an AFL team when they intelligently worked the ball up the oval.  The kids looked for their team mates, and they distributed the ball with impressive handballs, kicks and marks.  Team Menzel scored their fair share of goals this week too, which is always nice to see.

So congratulations to all the kids in Team Menzel!  You’ve all had a fantastic season.  Everyone improved their individual skills throughout the season, and each week they got better and better as an AFL team.  The Lane Cove Cats have a great group here to progress into the under 9s next season.

Next week is our Gala Day at Blackman Park.  We kick things off at 9:30 and there will be lots of fun activities and the trophy presentation for the kids.  The kids don’t need to wear their team uniform next week and are encouraged to wear the team colours of their favourite AFL team.  In fact, if the parents can put the uniform in a ziplock bag with their child’s name on it and hand it in at the Gala Day that would be most appreciated.  Until then!
