Denis Fitzgerald steps down as president

It was great sadness that we announce that Denis Fitzgerald has decided to step down from the presidency of the Lane Cove Cats AFL club.

Since taking on the presidency in late 2014, Denis has worked tireless to grow the club into what it is today; a family friendly club where the kids not only learn to play footy but grow as a person.

His tenure started of with a bang, with the club receiving the “Club with best Net Growth” award in 2015. It then culminated in Lane Cove being awarded the best junior AFL club on the Sydney North region in 2016.

One of his great achievements was getting access to the synthetic field at Blackman Park. Faced with a full on frontal attack by powerful soccer and rugby clubs in the region, he was able to secure the field for Auskick to use on Sunday mornings. This access is now been broadened to the full AFL field over the entire morning, so that juniors are guaranteed to play (rain, hail or shine)

However, the best indicator of his success as been the  happy faces on the field and sidelines every week. From Auskick up to U12s, we have a club that shows respect to each other, the opposition and the league officials.

However, Dennis also set up a great succession plan, and there are plenty of well qualified people to take this club forward. Stepping into his big shoes immediately is Daniel Hynes, who takes over after a couple of years in the vice presidency role.

We will also take this opportunity to refresh the committee, including injected some much negate females into club hierarchy. Therefore, we would be would be more than happy to hear from anyone who is interested in helping run this club.
