Outnumbered Lane Cove fought bravely against a hardened Swans squad but ran out of legs in the fourth quarter to go down by 4 goals.

The Cats were right in this game from the word go. Going into the breeze, the Cats lined up in more defensive structure, hoping to keep the Swans to a low score. And the boys really dug deep, continually repelling the Swans. Negri and Sidhu were instrumental in turning these possessions into attacks. However with a relatively sparse forward line, the scoring board struggled to tick over.

With the breeze in the second quarter, the boys were able to turn those runs out of defence into goals. Byrne was on the end of many of these forward entries, kicking two goals. However the pressure remained fierce. Hynes, Fish and Douglas lifted their pressure and tackled like there was no tomorrow. Ky’s clean hands in particular saw many of these turnovers turn into attacks, with the Cats entering the half time break up by 1 goal.

The third quarter saw the pressure rise even further. An early goal to the Cats put a spring into their steps; however this was short lived as the Swans hit back with three straight themselves.

It set up a do-or-die last quarter, with the Cats kicking with the breeze and behind by only 9 points. The quarter started well, however we squandered opportunities.  Several missed marks in the forward line came back to haunt us. The Swans then attacked, and kicked the first goal of the quarter. This took the wind out of the sails of the Cats players. With many heads starting to look downwards, the Swans found an extra gear and ran away with the match.

In the end, the Swans had more run in their legs and the skills in the air to defeat the gallants Cats.
